Work Together to Promote National Nutritional Status

“It is not one sector, it is not the ministry of health, it is not one part or one ministry or one sector that will be able to sort of solve this problem, it is a multi- sectoral problem, it has to come from different sectors and it has to have a mutli- sectoral approach tool” Professor Dr. A.F.M Ruhal Haque, Honourable Minister, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare urged the audience in a national seminar organized by the Bangladesh Civil Society Network for Promoting Nutrition (BCSNPN) at CIRDAP auditorium on the 19th December 2012.

The Seminar was organized on “Nutrition Programs in Bangladesh: Lessons Learned and Way Forward” to learn from the successes and threats of previous nutrition programs. Professor Dr. A.F.M Ruhal Haque, Honourable Minister, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was the Chief Guest of the seminar.

The seminar highlighted the outcomes of several government interventions like BINP and NNP; and has identified that working together can help to improve nutrition status in Bangladesh. By bringing together important personalities from government and nongovernment agencies, UNs, INGOs, academician, researcher and other civil society members through this seminar, the BCSNPN platform has helped to gather several observations, findings, recommendations to aid in reaching the common nutritional goal. Therefore, working together is expected to accelerate the common interest to promote and improve nutrition status in our country.

Mr. Tanvir Shakil Joy, Honorable Member of Parliament, Bangladesh Parliament ; Dr. Md. Murad Hassan, Member Parliamentary Standing Committee, MoHFW; Mr. Md Humayun Kabir, Senior  Secretary , MoHFW; Mr. Mihir Kanti Majumder, PhD, Secretary, MOLGRD & C and Prof. Dr. Khondhaker Md. Shefyetullah, Director General, DGHS participated as Special Guests and the seminar was addressed by Prof. Dr. Md.  Ekhlasur Rahman, Director, IPHN and Line Director NNS. The seminar was chaired by Prof. MQK Talukder, Chairman, CWCH.
